The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is alerting motorists that nighttime construction work has been scheduled for Interstate 5 from just south of Pocket Road in Sacramento to north of Laguna Boulevard near the City of Elk Grove the weekend of September 7 .

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) will have units posted for enforcement and traffic control. Motorists can expect traffic delays because the speed limit will be reduced in the work zone with north and southbound lanes limited to one lane in both directions from 11 p.m. Saturday, September 7 to 7 a.m. Sunday, September 8.

A contractor is scheduled to install K - rail and falsework at this location. Heavy construction equipment and machinery will be operating in and out of the work zone. Caltrans further advises motorists to factor in additional travel time and to use alternate routes until the work has been completed.

The work is part of an $82.5 million project by Caltrans and the City of Sacramento known as the Cosumnes River Boulevard Extension and Interstate 5 Interchange Project. Additional information can be located at this site.

Roadside message boards will post the latest updates. Unexpected weather or other events may prolong or cause the work to be rescheduled. Caltrans urges motorists to use caution in this area and to Slow for the Cone Zone.
