Spectre, Sam Mendes’ much anticipated follow-up to the last James Bond movie Skyfall, is still months away, but for those eager to get their first look at Dave Bautista’s Mr. Hinx or Lea Seydoux’s Bond girl — not that she’s completely onboard with that label — the wait is over.
The first images of Mr. Hinx and Dr. Madeleine Swann were premiered by Empire as part of the magazine’s current James Bond issue, accompanied by quotes from both actors about their characters.
Bautista said that he had two questions for Mendes before he took the role. “I asked him if Mr. Hinx was a badass. He said, ‘Yes, he’s a badass.’ I said, ‘Well, is Mr. Hinx intelligent?’ He said, ‘Very.’ That’s what I like about Mr. Hinx,” the Guardians of the Galaxy actor explained. “He’s very well dressed and very well mannered. I’m not just here to fight people. He has a sense of humor. He definitely knows what a metaphor is.”
Meanwhile, Seydoux argued that Dr. Swann isn’t a typical Bond love interest. “I think I’m not really the stereotyped Bond girl,” she said about her character. “I feel quite different. You can’t be like, ‘Oh, James.’ You have to find something else. She’s not a fighter; she’s a doctor. She fights in another way.” (To see Seydoux on set with director Mendes, head over to Empire’s site.)
Spectre, which sees Daniel Craig return as the British super spy alongside a cast that includes Christoph Waltz, Monica Bellucci and Ralph Fiennes, will be released in the U.S. Nov. 6.
