CARMICHAEL–

A proposed ordinance would ban the sale of single-serving sizes of alcohol at new liquor stores in the unincorporated areas of Sacramento County. Six packs and large bottles would still be allowed.

The county cites the potential for crime, noise and other nuisances as reasons behind the proposal.

Existing liquor stores would be exempt from the new rules unless they expand, move, or make major changes to their liquor licenses.  Large variety retailers like Walmart and Rite Aid would also be exempt from the restrictions.

Many liquor store owners in Sacramento County are gathering petitions opposing the ordinance which they say unfairly blames them for problems in the county.

The issue will be considered at next Tuesday afternoon’s Board of Supervisors meeting.
