PBS has expanded its licensing agreement with Netflix to include all seasons of the U.K. murder mystery The Bletchley Circle, as well as more kids programming and past seasons of Nova and Secrets of the Dead. Beginning next year, the streaming service will become the exclusive SVOD home of popular preschool program Super Why! Additional kids series on Netflix include Wild Kratts and Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood while Caillou and Arthur will continue to be available. Ken Burns’ films including Prohibition and Central Park Five as well as Masterpiece Classic: Great Expectations are also available.
“While PBS stations will always be the first place to see our programming, this agreement with Netflix exposes our shows to new audiences and further expands PBS’ presence across all media platforms,” Jason Seiken, general manager of PBS Digital, said in a statement.
The extension of the multiyear deal between PBS and Netflix – which went into effect July 1 – comes several months after Amazon poached PBS ratings hit Downton Abbey from Netflix in a deal that made Amazon Prime Video the exclusive SVOD home of Downton. Amazon secured rights to season three, which wrapped last February, and seasons four and five, if a fifth season is produced.
