TORONTO – IFC Films has acquired North American and Latin American rights to Peter Strickland‘s The Duke of Burgundy, which will begin filming in Hungary later this month.
Written and directed by Strickland (Berberian Sound Studio), the film will star international TV star Sidse Babett Knudsen (Borgen) and Chiara D’Anna.

The dark melodrama will be produced by Rook’s Andy Starke and will be executive produced by Ben Wheatley, Film4’s Anna Higgs, BFI’s Lizzie Francke and Pioneer’s Ildiko Kemeny.
“We believe Peter is an immense talent and loved working on his amazing film Berberian Sound Studio,” Sundance Selects/IFC Films president Jonathan Sehring said. “We look forward to working again with Ben and the entire team on this film.”
The deal for the film was negotiated by Sundance Selects/IFC Films’ Arianna Bocco. Protagonist Pictures’ Mike Goodridge repped the filmmakers.
IFC Films is a sister label to IFC Midnight and Sundance Selects and is owned and operated by AMC Networks Inc.
