NATOMAS–
A concerned driver who lives near Natomas High School just happened to catch some scary images on his personal dashcam Wednesday.
In his video, a long stream of teenagers at the intersection of Truxel and San Juan in Natomas are seen crossing the road with total disregard for oncoming traffic.
At the time the traffic was moving forward as it should on a green light.
This driver didn’t want his face shown, but by speaking out he did want to reveal what he sees as a serious problem – drivers almost being dared to hit kids as the leave school at the end of the day.
“Some of them were almost getting hit and what really bothered me … it seemed like a planned thing, like they did it every day,” he said.
His calls to Natomas High School’s resource officer confirmed this has been an ongoing issue, but this concerned citizen was told his video wouldn’t be needed to help identify the crosswalk culprits.
He was told nothing could be done. But with a long school year ahead, this driver hopes this problem can be fixed. He wants the kids to think about the future and not just how fast they want to get somewhere.
“We’ve all been running late and wanted to get somewhere quick, but it’s not worth it … not worth getting hurt,” he said.
FOX40 spoke with the superintendent of the Natomas Unified School District Wednesday Night. Chris Evans said he had been unaware of any crosswalk issue, but that he intends to look into it.
