COLFAX-
A big rig caught fire Thursday morning near Colfax, closing one lane of westbound Interstate 80.
The California Highway Patrol first reported the fire just before 7 a.m. The fire extinguisher inside the truck was reportedly empty, and the fire caused extra concern because of the dry brush nearby.
The truck was full of household items like furniture, clothes and dishes for a move.
As of 8:20 a.m., the truck was still smoldering and firefighters continued to put water on it. Crews said it could take up to three hours for the blocked lane to reopen.
Some of the items in the truck appeared to be salvageable.
The driver of the truck, carrying the belongings of five households heading from Ohio to San Francisco, told FOX40 that he feels “terrible.”
