More than 1 million Xbox One consoles were sold worldwide during the new Microsoft device’s first 24 hours on the market, the tech giant reported. These figures make Xbox One’s launch the biggest in Xbox history, selling more units on its first day than Xbox 360 did on its first day and setting a Microsoft record.
Xbox One is now sold out at most retailers, but Microsoft said it is “working to replenish stock as fast as possible to meet the unprecedented demand from our customers.”
FIRST LOOK: Microsoft’s New Xbox One
Xbox’s corporate vice president of marketing and strategy, Yusuf Mehdi, said in a statement: “We are humbled and grateful for the excitement of Xbox fans around the world. Seeing thousands of excited fans lined up to get their Xbox One and their love for gaming was truly a special moment for everyone on the Xbox team. We are working hard to create more Xbox One consoles and look forward to fulfilling holiday gift wishes this season.”
Xbox also reported that during the console’s first 24 hours on sale, new owners have already been playing its games, with more than 60 million zombies killed in Dead Rising 3, more than 3.6 million miles driven in Forza Motorsport 5 and more than 8.5 million enemies defeated in Ryse: Son of Rome.

The console became available in 13 markets on Nov. 22. A week earlier, Sony‘s rival PlayStation 4 was released in the U.S. and Canada and sold more than 1 million units in North America during its first 24 hours on sale. PlayStation 4 will be released in Europe and Latin America on Nov. 29.
The Xbox One costs $499 while the PS4 goes for $399.
