Doctor Who‘s stateside ratings still may be a long way off from the heights it achieves in its native U.K., but the series did post an all-time U.S. best with the Nov. 23 anniversary special “The Day of the Doctor.”
Marking an all-time high for BBC America, the 50th anniversary festivities brought in a record 2.4 million viewers during its 2:50 p.m. ET simulcast with the British airing. Across encores, the series brought in a gross 3.6 million viewers for the day. (In the U.K., Doctor Who posted its best numbers since 2010 with 10.2 million viewers).

In BBC’s targeted adults 25-54 demographic, Doctor Who posted another best with 1.2 million viewers.
BBC American used the day’s big platform to launch freshman drama Atlantis — which brought in a network best for a series launch, averaging 838,000 viewers. That outmatches the buzzy Orphan Black and the late Copper.
Doctor Who was a hit outside of the tube as well. BBC America saw Saturday’s theatrical screenings of the episode, which was taped in 3D, sell out in 11 U.S. markets.
