TORONTO — Roadside Attractions and Lionsgate have set their sights on Daniel Schechter‘s Life of Crime, headlining Jennifer Aniston and based on the late Elmore Leonard‘s novel The Switch.
Life of Crime, which will close out the Toronto Film Festival on Saturday night, is among several films playing in Toronto that feature recently deceased principals. Also Wednesday morning, U.S. distributor Well Go inked a deal for U.S. rights to McCanick, starring the late Cory Monteith.

Schechter’s dark comedy, starring Aniston opposite Mos Def and John Hawkes, revolves around two jail buddies who take one last job upon their release. Isla Fisher, Will Forte and Tim Robbins also star.
Life of Crime played for buyers and the media over the weekend in Toronto and received mixed reviews. Every major distributor was in attendance for Saturday’s screening, including Sony Classics Pictures, Focus Features, Relativity and Searchlight.
It wasn’t immediately clear when Roadside and Lionsgate will release the movie in the U.S.
Aniston is enjoying a resurgence at the box office with New Line’s R-rated comedy We’re the Millers, which has vastly overperformed, grossing north of $125 million to date in North America.
