Samsung Electronics on Monday announced development of technology that it claims could “sit at the core” of a 5G mobile communications system to provide data transmission up to several hundred times faster than current 4G networks.
In its announcement, the company said the development of this “adaptive array transceiver technology” potentially means subscribers could have access to services such as real-time streaming of Ultra HD, which involves at least four times as much information as today’s HD.
Ultra HD was a big topic at January’s CES in Las Vegas, where all major set makers unveiled 4K-capable displays.
Samsung plans to accelerate the research and development of 5G mobile communications technologies, including adaptive array transceiver, with an eye toward using these technologies in commercial products by 2020.
