LONDON – German pay TV group Sky Deutschland, controlled by Rupert Murdoch‘s 21st Century Fox, has inked a long-term extension of a movie rights deal and network carriage agreement in the territory.
It gives the German group exclusive pay TV and SVOD rights for its Sky Anytime and Sky Go services to MGM movie output, including Skyfall, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, as well as forthcoming films Carrie and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
The companies also said they have struck a long-term exclusive carriage renewal agreement for the MGM HD channel on the Sky platform in Germany and Austria. Financial and other details weren’t disclosed.
This deal follows the launch of the MGM HD channel on Sky Deutschland in June earlier.
The announcement of the new deals was made by Gary Davey, executive vp, programming of Sky Deutschland and Chris Ottinger, president, international television distribution and acquisitions at MGM.
Skyfall, the 23rd film in the James Bond franchise and the highest grossing movie of 2012 in Germany, will have its exclusive TV premiere in Germany and Austria in September on Sky Cinema HD and will then be available via Sky Anytime and Sky Go whenever and wherever customers want it.
