LONDON – The British Film Institute has pledged $6.4 million (£4 million) of its funding through 2017 to its research and statistics efforts, an uptick of $4 million (£2.5 million) on previous funding available.
As part of the cash boost, the BFI is seeking a partner to help deliver its activities in collating figures, researching trends and delivering data to the movie industry.
The cash injection from lottery funding will help the BFI Research and Statistics Unit analyze the impact of digital technologies throughout the film value chain, examine and test new business models and develop the unit’s activities as a whole.
The BFI said it will set up a research and statistics advisory committee to oversee the new fund.
BFI deputy CEO Tim Cagney said: “We’re looking for innovation, partnership and expertise. Our substantial investment in this vital area, alongside additional funding from the successful partner organization, will increase the level of robust information and data available and provide a crucial evidence base for film policy-makers and industry.”
