PLACER COUNTY–

Driven by a strong Delta breeze and sparked by humans, a grass fire quickly scorched a field Sunday evening.

“We’re going to assume this was started by either arson or reckless burning,” said Cal Fire Battalion Chief Fred Lopez.

15 blackened acres of grass were all that remained after a grass fire on the Placer-Sutter county line.

Lopez tells FOX40 out in the rolling grassland the cause of this fire was likely no accident.

“I’m thinking burning an illegal campfire or actually lighting the grass on fire and leaving.”
