A documentary focusing on the iconic Rome Marathon will be racing into theaters June 12. Spirit of the Marathon II, a sequel to the 2008 Chicago Marathon documentary, tells the inspirational story of seven competitors, each running for different reasons.
Tickets for the film, presented by Fathom Events, can be purchased online or at participating theaters. The event will be broadcast at 7 p.m. local time to more than 600 select movie theaters across the country through NCM’s exclusive Digital Broadcast Network.

Filmed during the 2012 Rome Marathon, the doc is described as a passion project from director Jon Dunham and producer Gwendolen Twist, along with three-time Oscar winner Mark Jonathan Harris executive producing and Oscar nominee Megan Williams also producing.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the The One Fund Boston to assist families affected by the Boston Marathon on April 15.
“Spirit of the Marathon II is more than a sports event – it’s an opportunity for runners and non-runners alike to come together as a community in their local movie theaters to experience seven different inspirational journeys with each of these runners,” said Shelly Maxwell, executive vice president of NCM Fathom Events.
