Halle Berry‘s entrance onto the Oscar stage to announce the James Bond 50th anniversary segment was about as Bond as it gets. The one-time Bond girl had told designer Donatella Versace that she wanted to look like just that, a Bond girl. And in her black, long-sleeve Versace gown stamped with silver shiny spines, she couldn’t have achieved the goal more if she’d been wearing an orange bikini.
Adele, too, wore a long black sequined number on the carpet. Only her beaded tulle Jenny Packham was a more classic choice. It had a very simple shape but a whole lotta glitter. When you do that much in sequins, you don’t need a lot of fabric — you keep it simple. And that she did.
Sandra Bullock‘s elaborately beaded Elie Saab also had a simple shape but a bit of a fishtail train, and she looked both low-key and dressed-up, with very simple hair and makeup and a jeweled clip in her straight hair.
In a glittery Naeem Khan, Stacy Keibler also played into the trend, as did Nicole Kidman in a dramatic black and bronze liquidy sequin L’Wren Scott. Designers and department stores, take note of the surefire formalwear trend that’s afoot.
