London studio facilities operator Wimbledon Film and Television Studios on Tuesday unveiled an expansion that will double the size of its media village.?
The facility cited “high demand from high-profile media and broadcast companies,” saying that its “close proximity to central London and convenience of a multitude of services in one place makes Wimbledon an increasingly attractive proposition for large-scale productions.”

The Iron Lady and Episodes are among the productions that have filmed there. The news of the expansion comes just days after news that Star Wars: Episode VII will film in the U.K.
Production space in and around London has been growing. Warner Bros. last year opened Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, just outside of London, and Pinewood Shepperton has been looking to expand its facilities.

The current media village space houses 50 businesses, which offer services to TV and film productions. The expansion, to be completed in mid-June, will add 8,000 square feet of office space able to house at least 25 more companies, according to the studios. ? ?
Said Piers Read, managing director of Wimbledon Film and Television Studios: “Once complete, the complex will be able to house at least 75 media companies, all of which will be available to the productions that visit the studios, and of course to the international TV and film community — our aim being to give them everything they need on their production’s doorstep.” ? ?
Wimbledon opened on 2010. “We’ve already expanded our offering to include a new studio to accommodate large-scale TV productions, and we can’t see it slowing down,” said Read. “The migration of companies from other studios and the increasingly high-profile productions that choose to film here only adds credence to that.”?
?Wimbledon also said it is in advanced talks with production companies about moving their headquarters into its media village.?
