American Idol season-eight winner Kris Allen underwent his third surgery on Friday, and it appears the procedure went well.
Allen reported the news on Friday via Twitter with his usual cheeky charm, informing fans he was “Goin in for the last surgery on the wrist today. Again I apologize in advance for anything I say and do afterwards today. Ya just never know.” He then tweeted a picture of the IV inserted into his hand with one comment: “Needles are fun.”

All seemed well on Saturday morning as Allen posted an “Update: doin alright. :)” His wife, Katy, happily tweeted, “Surgery went great! He is in recovery now.”
The Allens were traveling on Jan. 1 when they were both involved in a head-on collision in their car, breaking the singer’s wrist. The initial surgery didn’t heal properly, thus requiring two more procedures. This setback did not hold the Idol champ down, however. Despite wearing a cast, the 28-year-old Arkansas native soldiered through his “Out Alive” tour, strapping on his guitar for several dates.
In May, Allen wrote a note to concerned fans about the situation on his website.
“For those of you who are getting worried right about now … don’t,” he wrote. “I will be fine. After everything is healed, I will be able to play guitar. I will be able to play piano. I will be able to throw a baseball with my kid. I will be able to do the things that I love to do. Just not a proper push-up.”
There is happy news for the couple. They are expecting the birth of their son, Oliver, in July.
Prior to his surgery, Allen recorded a special song for his street team, Little Pawns. The tune, “On Our Way,” is a track from his pre-Idol self-released album, Brand New Shoes.
“This is my thank-you to you,” he said in the video.
