BARTOAKLAND—

Union representatives for BART workers have reportedly walked away from last-minute negotiations Sunday night, setting the stage for a service stoppage Monday morning.

Riders are advised to check 511.org to find out if, indeed, there is a service stoppage due to BART workers going on strike.

BART officials have offered an 8% wage increase over four years, along with lowering the amount they expect workers to contribute to their pension and healthcare.

“We have a long way to go but we can’t get any closer if we aren’t at the table. We reached tentative agreements on 11 items today and we should use that momentum to reach a deal. Walking away doesn’t do any good,” said BART Spokesperson Rick Rice in a statement.

Both sides met Sunday at the urging of Gov. Jerry Brown.

While union leaders haven’t said if a strike will happen, the union’s current contract expires at midnight.
