The ego clash between warring American Idol judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj just became more heated. On Thursday, Minaj went public with personal — and extremely harsh — insults against Carey, referencing The Hollywood Reporter‘s scoop last week that Idol execs had sought to replace Carey with Jennifer Lopez.
“All dem #1s but JLo phone ringin? Lol. I guess having a personality, being a secure woman, and giving genuine critique still trumps that,” tweeted Minaj, oozing venom.
Responding to Twitter backlash, Minaj urged her followers to start “asking why a woman SO successful at her age, is still so INSECURE, and bitter.”
‘American Idol’ Recap: Candice Miller Dominates Finale as Finale Draws Near
What incited this rant? A comment from Carey on Wednesday’s edition of Idol; while the diva was critiquing contestant Angie Miller, Minaj interjected to argue with her feedback, prompting Carey to point a finger at Minaj and slam the rapper-provocateur for never having had a single go No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
As previously reported, sources told THR about a failed plan to bring Lopez back to the show in an effort to boost sagging ratings for season 12. Carey had threatened litigation, thwarting the J-Lo plot.
Thursday night, another hopeful will be eliminated to whittle down the field of finalists to three.
But more importantly: will Carey and Minaj get through the episode without killing each other? Discuss.
