The first trailer for the RoboCop remake debuted as the most viewed trailer on YouTube, according to online tracking firm Zefr.
The coming attraction for the movie starring Joel Kinnaman, Michael Keaton and Abbie Cornish scored 16.1 million views in its first week online. The movie opens Feb. 7, 2014.
Gravity, Alfonso Cuaron‘s space thriller starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock, held the No. 2 spot with 2.7 million views, in what was also its debut week. The movie, which has been getting great buzz in early screenings at the Telluride and Toronto film festivals, opens on Oct. 4.
The third and fourth spots were held by summer holdovers Despicable Me 2′s third trailer (2.3 million views for a lifetime total of 71.8 million) and Fast & Furious 6‘s first trailer (1.2 million last week, 135 million lifetime).
Riddick, which opened in theaters on Sept. 6 with $18.7 million, held the fifth spot with 1.1 million views for its trailer No. 1.
Neighbors (Red Band Trailer No. 1), 300: Rise of an Empire and One Direction: This Is Us were all grouped together with about one million views each in the sixth, seventh, and eighth spots.
The teaser trailer for Divergent, which doesn’t hit theaters until March, held the ninth spot.
Thor 2: Dark World (trailer no. 2) was tenth.
Looking outside the top ten, 47 Ronin’s first trailer was fifteenth but interestingly the movie’s Russian language trailer landed at no. 23, the only country-specific trailer to land in the top twenty-five.
SyFy TV movie sensation Sharknado continues to draw attention online. Its trailer ranked No. 25 (287,724 views, 7.7 million lifetime).
