OLIVEHURST–

Blowing into the breathalyzer and asking suspected DUI drivers to walk a straight line is something California Highway Patrol Officer Blas Jurado is used to doing.

But, according to the CHP Yuba-Sutter division, the five-year agency veteran was arrested in Olivehurst by his own department Saturday night for driving under the influence.

“A civilian reported they saw Jurado pulled over on the corner of Olivehurst and 6th [Avenues],” says Captain Andres Ornelas with the Yuba-Sutter CHP division. “It’s always surprising to us when any CHP officer is arrested … but, he made a mistake.”

Jurado, who was off duty Saturday according to Ornelas, had a blood alcohol level of .08, the legal limit. The 41-year-old was booked in to the Yuba County Jail.

“This will be thoroughly investigated like any other DUI arrest, criminally and internally,” Ornelas told FOX40. “Jurado will return to work this week.”

According to CHP’s Yuba-Sutter division, the officer was one of five people arrested Saturday for driving under the influence.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in Yuba County Superior Court on September 18. If convicted of a DUI, Jurado could face up to $10,000 in legal fees and fines.
