Erotic noir thriller The Canyons will have its world premiere at The Film Society of Lincoln Center in New York on Monday, July 29.
Director Paul Schrader will attend the event and participate in a Q&A with New York Film Festival program director Kent Jones after the screening.

Said Jones in the announcement: “On one level, The Canyons is a visually and tonally precise, acid-etched horror story of souls wandering through a hypermaterialist hell, with a fearless and, I think, stunning performance by Lindsay Lohan at its center; on another level, it’s an inspiration and an example to us all: it’s difficult for me to imagine another filmmaker of Paul Schrader’s stature diving into the world of crowd-sourced moviemaking, let alone with such fervor, dedication and rigor.”
The Canyons stars porn actor James Deen as a movie producer who makes films to keep his trust fund intact and Lindsay Lohan as his actress girlfriend who tries to hide an affair with an actor from her past. After Deen’s character discovers the truth, the couple is thrust into “a violent tour through the dark side of human nature.”
Directed by Schrader from Bret Easton Ellis’ script, The Canyons has gotten heavy media coverage because of its sexually charged storyline and the the fact that a troubled starlet and a porn star are cast in the leading roles.
The film, which was made in large part because of nearly $160,000 raised on crowd-funding site Kickstarter, will have its international premiere at the Venice Film Festival, which takes place from Aug. 28 to Sept. 7.
The Canyons will hit theaters on Aug. 2 in New York, and Aug. 9 in Los Angeles.
