Mark Hamill, famous for playing Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars trilogy, will receive the Don LaFontaine Legacy Award during PromaxBDA’s 2013 conference, set for June 18-20 in Los Angeles.
Hamill, who also is known as the voice of the Joker for the animated Batman series, will accept the honor June 20 at the PromaxBDA Promotion, Marketing and Design Awards Ceremony. Comedian Jay Mohr will host the ceremony.

“Mark Hamill is one of the most iconic names in Hollywood,” says Jonathan Block-Verk, president and CEO of PromaxBDA International. “Breaking on to the film scene as Luke Skywalker and going on to produce, direct and write, he has successfully established himself as one of the leading voice actors through numerous and memorable roles, most notably as the Joker in the many incarnations of the Batman franchise.”
The Don LaFontaine Legacy Award, which was introduced for the first time as a part of the 2009 PromaxBDA Promotion & Marketing Awards, was created to recognize voice talent and its integral role in marketing and promotion within the entertainment industry. The honor, named for the late, legendary voice actor, is presented annually to “a voice of impact and someone who has contributed with their body of work to the effectiveness of the business.”
Hamill, a prolific voice actor, has performed in hundreds of cartoons and various Batman series. In addition to his numerous TV, film and Broadway credits, he more recently branched out into writing, producing and directing.

He also created his own comic book anti-hero in The Black Pearl (for Dark Horse Comics), which he co-wrote with Eric Johnson as a five-issue miniseries. The film adaptation, which Hamill co-wrote with Johnson and Paul Tamasy (The Fighter), will be his second feature as a director.
PromaxBDA, the association for marketing, promotion and design professionals working in the entertainment industry, holds its conference annually to explore the areas of marketing, promotion and design. Panels are designed for executives to share ideas, learn new techniques, develop tools and get insight into the latest technologies.
