Fox has appointed a feature film veteran to help grow its slate of event series.
Jeni Mulein, who comes to the network from Original Film, will assume the position of vp event series programming, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. She will report to Shana C. Waterman, Fox’s senior vp multi-platform programming and event series.
In her new role, Mulein will offer input on creative direction for all of the network’s upcoming projects, including those in development and already in production. Among them are high-profile shows including M. Night Shyamalan‘s Wayward Pines, 24: Live Another Day and the U.S. adaptation of British hit Broadchurch.
Additionally, Mulein is expected to utilize her feature film development knowledge and talent relationships to bring in new projects for the network.
The hire makes Fox the latest network to focus on expanding its footprint in the limited series space. In June, NBC brought over ABC executive Quinn Taylor to restart its longform programming department as it — and other networks, including cable — aims to increase originals and compete with live TV events.
“A lot has changed in the media landscape, and the notion of creating an event that is on for a shorter period of time that really demands attention is pretty exciting,” Waterman told THR in April.
At Original Film, Mulein oversaw development projects including the acquisition of spec script The End of History and co-produced SWAT: Firefight.
A University of Michigan graduate, she has a master’s degree from the University of Southern California in motion picture producing.
