Hussain Amarshi‘s indie outfit also acquired the Canadian rights for Bastards (Les salauds), which screened in the Un Certain Regard sidebar.
The latest three Cannes competition titles picked up by Mongrel include Japanese writer/director ‘Hirokazu Kore-eda‘s Like Father, Like Son, about a successful businessman who finds out that his biological son was switched with another child at birth.
Mongrel also acquired the Benicio Del Toro and Mathieu Amalric-starrer Jimmy P., an English-language drama from French director Arnaud Desplechin and French filmmaker Francois Ozon‘s Young & Beautiful (Jeune & Joie) , a coming-of-age portrait of a 17-year-old French girl over four seasons and four songs.
Also in the Mongrel shopping bag for the Canadian market is French director Claire Denis‘ Bastards, which stars Vincent Lindon and is based on a script by Denis and Jean-Pol Fargeau.
Earlier in Cannes, Mongrel acquired the Canadian rights to the Cannes competition films like Ethan and Joel Coen‘s Inside Llewyn Davis, Paolo Sorrentino‘s La Grande Bellezza (The Great Beauty) and Abdellatif Kechiche ‘ s La vie d’Adèle Chapitres 1 & 2 (Blue is the Warmest Colour).
