FX is hoping fans of zombies will flock to its upcoming vampire drama The Strain.
A cryptic viral video featuring a massive rat infestation in New York debuted during the season-four midseason finale of AMC’s The Walking Dead. The handheld footage featured a slew of rats heading into a sewer and inside what appears to be a courthouse before ending abruptly.
STORY: FX Orders Guillermo del Toro’s ‘The Strain’ to Series
FX declined to comment on the promo — posted to YouTube by a fan site — but sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the mysterious, unlabeled spot is indeed the first promo for the forthcoming vampire drama The Strain. The series, from Guillermo del Toro, centers on a vampire virus that infects New York and the CDC doctor, Ephraim “Eph” Goodweather (House of Cards‘ Corey Stoll), who investigates the case. Goodweather, the head of the CDC’s Canary Team in New York, is called upon to investigate a viral outbreak connected to an evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph will lead a team of New Yorkers as it wages a war and defends humanity.
The Strain debuts in July. Check out the promo below and hit the comments with your thoughts. Are you intrigued?
Del Toro and Chuck Hogan, who co-penned the three-book series on which the show is based, co-wrote the pilot, with Bates Motel‘s Carlton Cuse on board as showrunner. Del Toro will directed the pilot, which hails from FX Productions.
