WOODLAND—

The chase for a man with a warrant out for his arrest prompted the lockdown of a nearby school late Wednesday morning.

According to a media release from the Woodland Police Department, officers tried to pull over a man riding his bicycle on the wrong side of the road near Cross and Walnut Streets.

Officers soon recognized the man as 19-year-old Woodland resident Carlos Ayala – a man with a warrant out for his arrest on a charge he didn’t show up to a court date. Ayala is said to have jumped over a fence and into a yard to try and get away from officers, taking him near Dingle Elementary School.

The school was put on lockdown as a precaution due to how close the chase was getting. However, the lockdown only lasted about seven minutes – with Ayala never actually stepping foot on campus.

Ayala got away from officers and is now wanted for resisting arrest charges, on top of the warrant. Anyone who knows where he may be is asked to call Woodland Police at (530) 661-7800.
