KINGS BEACH-
The drought and lack of snow in the Sierra has made it possible for the Old Brockway course in Kings Beach to open in January, the earliest it has opened ever.
Their business is booming.
“It was good! We had about 50 players, people from all over the world actually,” said Tim Lewis, whose family runs the course. “Our earliest opening we’ve ever had prior to this year was March 14th of 2014. Now we’re going January 31 2015, absolutely incredible.”
Golfers we talked to say the course’s condition wasn’t half bad.
“Yeah it was definitely playable, there was some ice, but I mean it’s January right?” joked Steffen Hertl, who is visiting from Germany.
“We feel bad for the local businesses and the snow and ski resorts but if we can be open we might as well be open,” Lewis told FOX40.
The course does have its winter rates going, which are anywhere from ten to twenty dollars cheaper than summer. But the scene is much different from winters past, when the golf course has had snowmobiles driving around on it.
