For The Love Of Children, a documentary by Canadian philanthropist Ashid Bahl about his work helping the poor, has won best film and the best feature documentary honors at this year’s Angel Film Awards at the Monaco International Film Festival.
The documentary, which looks at Bahl’s efforts to build orphanages and schools in poor areas around the world, had its world premiere in Monaco.
David Lynch‘s doc about transcendental meditation, Meditation-Creativity-Peace, took home four trophies from the 11th Angel Film Awards, including best director and the Angel Peace Award.
The other big winner at this year’s fest was the mystery drama Mother’s Milk from British director Gerald Fox starring Jack Davenport and Adrian Dunbar. Mother’s Milk took a total of eight awards, including best feature film. Other multiple award winners included the Japanese drama My Way of Life from director Hideki Wada and the short film Shoes from director Costa Fam.
This year’s Angel Film jury was headed by Oscar-nominated director Roland Joffe (The Killing Fields). The Monaco International Film Festival, set up and run by Rosana Golden and Dean Bentley, is a celebration of non-violent cinema and bills itself as an antidote to the “usual violent film lobby.”
