Grant of the Week: American Studies Association Dissertation Prize

The American Studies Association offers the Ralph Henry Gabriel Prize, given annually to the best doctoral dissertation in American Studies, American Ethnic Studies or American Women’s Studies. Applicants who completed their dissertations between July 1, 2006 and June 30, 2007, and who are members of ASA, are eligible for the $500 prize. Nominations must be submitted by the director of the graduate program for which the dissertation was written. The deadline for submissions is May 20, 2007. See the web site for more details.

The American Studies Association has more than 5,000 members, with backgrounds in history, ethnic studies, anthropology, museum studies, sociology, government, library science, gender studies, popular culture, and much more. The association was founded in 1951 and “exists to promote and encourage the study of American culture–past and present.”
