The blogosphere is rich with blogs on history. To get a peek at all that’s out there, visit Cliopatria’s history blogroll (Cliopatria is an HNN group blog), which lists and organizes into categories hundreds of history blogs. The first category on this list is “carnivals.” Carnivals are blogs that list and review other blogs, often on a monthly or bi-monthly basis, offering a collection of and commentary on some of the best posts from a variety of blogs. For instance, History Carnival, has monthly posts on a wide variety of history topics, and has different bloggers host each month’s carnival. This month’s “History Carnival 51” is hosted by Mary Beard at A Don’s Life and covers posts on the movie 300, Foucault’s History of Madness, the British slave trade, and so much more. Other carnivals have a more defined focus. Check out the following:

• Carnival of Bad History
• Carnivalesque (pre-modern history)
• Four Stone Hearth (anthropology)
• Military History Carnival

The blogosphere has much to offer in new forms of scholarship, discussion, and community. However, it can be a daunting and overwhelming place to navigate. Carnivals are a good way to catch up on what you may have missed.
