IFC Films has acquired U.S. rights to Megan Griffiths‘ Lucky Them.
The film, presented by MyMy Productions in association with Tangerine Entertainment, stars Toni Collette, Thomas Haden Church, Oliver Platt, Nina Arianda, Ryan Eggold and Ahna O’Reilly.
Written by Emily Wachtel and Huck Botko, Lucky Them centers on Ellie Klug (Collette), an unconventional rock journalist who dates musicians. She is given the important assignment of exploring her own past by her magazine’s editor (Platt). Joined by eccentric would-be documentarian Charlie (Church), Ellie sets out on an emotional treasure hunt in order to finally rid herself of her ghosts and get on with life.
The film was produced by Wachtel, Amy Hobby and Adam Gibbs and executive produced by Joanne Woodward and Peer Pedersen. Lucky Them made its world premiere last month at the Toronto Film Festival.
“Toni and Thomas give fantastic performances, and this film is an effervescent and hilarious portrait of one woman’s self-examination that is bolstered by an excellent supporting cast,” said Jonathan Sehring, president of Sundance Selects/IFC Films.
The deal for the film was negotiated by Sundance Selects/IFC Films’ Arianna Bocco. Cinetic Media’s John Sloss repped the filmmakers.
IFC Films is a sister label to IFC Midnight and Sundance Selects and is owned and operated by AMC Networks Inc.
