The International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) has unveiled its first five competition titles, the line-up that will compete for the 2014 Hivos Tiger Awards.
The line-up of first and second features includes Lee Chatametikool‘s Concrete Clouds, a drama set against the Asian financial crisis of 1990s which is debut feature from the editor of Palme d’Or winner Apichatpong Weerasethakul (Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives). Concrete Clouds received backing from Rotterdam’s Hubert Bals Fund for script and project development.
Lose My Self, the sophomore effort by German director Jan Schomburg about a woman suffering from retrograde amnesia, which was nominated as one of the best unfilmed German screenplays of 2013, will have its world premiere in Rotterdam. Maria Schrader stars as a successful career woman who begins to lose her entire mental biography.
Another Rotterdam world premiere will be Tatjana Bozic‘s Happily Every After, a feature-length documentary about her own love life. Brazilian drama Riverrun by Paulo Sacramento and Anatomy of a Paper Clip by Japanese director Akira Ikeda will also screen in competition in Rotterdam 2014.
In total, 15 features will compete for Rotterdam’s three, equally-valued Hivos Tiger Awards.
The 43rd Rotterdam festival runs January 22-Feb. 2, 2014.
