‘American Idol’ notes: Jessica Sanchez, Adam Lambert’s new TV gigs

American IdolNow that we’ve made it through the celebratory waters of the “American Idol” finale, we now have some more news on a pair of former contestents who were present for the announcement of Candice Glover’s victory (and one of them actually performed): Jessica Sanchez and Adam Lambert.

Let’s start this off with a pretty interesting announcement: Jessica will be appearing on the “Dancing with the Stars” finale, but will actually be singing a part that is reserved for Christina Aguilera. We’re talking about Aguilera’s hit with Pitbull “Feel This Moment,” and given that the rapper is scheduled to appear, our assumption is that Jessica is taking on Aguilera’s part in the song. Do we wish that she was getting to perform “Tonight”? Definitely, but she is a good choice for the song, and any publicity in front of over 10 million viewers is always good publicity.

Meanwhile, Adam Lambert had an opportunity recently to perform a song that he famously covered on his own “American Idol” journey years ago while on the Chinese version of the singing competition. The song is of course “Mad World,” and his version of it is just as breathtaking as you probably remember. It’s ultimately in that rare group of songs that no one on the show should ever cover again, kind of like Candice and “Lovesong” from this season or Crystal Bowersox and “Me & Bobby McGee.”

Enjoy the video below, and thanks to Mjsbigblog to making us aware of the performance.

In going back to Candice, have you heard the surprising thing that Simon Cowell once said to her on the show? It’s certainly worth a look over at this link, especially since we have a feeling that you will be rather happy you did.
