Police say a suspect who fled from CHP in Rio Linda may have barricaded himself inside a house in Natomas.
Reports indicate the suspect is bleeding. Police have K9 units on scene and have sent in the SWAT team as well.
It is unknown at this time if the suspect is in his own home, or a random one.
As of 7 p.m. the SWAT team is still situated outside the home on Sageview Drive.
The shooting, involving a CHP officer, happened in the area of Elkhorn Blvd and Dry Creek Road. Police set up a perimeter and searched both on foot and from the sky in a chopper.
According to CHP, police pulled over a motorcycle rider for speeding. He allegedly ran away and jacked a blue and white Ford Bronco.
Police then began a search for said Bronco, and it ultimately led them to Natomas where they set up the SWAT perimeter.
The surrounding homes in Natomas were evacuated around 7 p.m. and hostage negotiators were able to get others out of the house that the suspect was in.
Just after 9 p.m. the Sacramento Police Department confirmed the suspect was found dead inside the Natomas home following an hours long standoff with police.
Three schools in the Twin Rivers School District were on precautionary lockdown following the apparent carjacking and officer involved shooting. The lockdown included Rio Linda High, Rio Linda Preparatory Academy, and Dry Creek Elementary.
The officer involved in the shooting in Rio Linda was not shot, and is fine.
