FAIRFIELD–

The Solano County Sheriff’s Office are alerting residents in Fairfield, Vallejo, Dixon, Vacaville and Suisun to secure boats that are parked in driveways and side yards. They say 30 boats have been stolen in those cities in the past 30 days.

The Sheriff’s Stolen Vehicle Task Force says the boats are being taken on trailers and all late at night. Thieves are apparently after motors and other electronic equipment on board and the boats themselves are abandoned.

They are asking boat owners to report any suspicious activity and to put locks on trailer hitches. They also recommend that outboard motors be taken off the boat and locked away, or to be secured by locks and chains if that’s not possible.

Detectives are following leads developed when some of the stolen motors turned up on internet sales sites.
