LONDON – Romanian producer Ada Solomon will be honored with this year’s European co-production award, the Prix Eurimages, during the European Film Awards ceremony in Berlin on Dec. 7.
The award is handed out to acknowledge “the decisive role of co-productions in the European film industry.” Eurimages is the Council of Europe fund for the co-production, distribution, exhibition and digitization of European films. It wants to promote the European film industry by encouraging cooperation.
Since setting up her own company, HiFilm, Solomon has produced feature debuts from Radu Jude (The Happiest Girl In The World), Melissa de Raaf and Razvan Radulescu (First of All, Felicia), Paul Negoescu (A Month In Thailand) and a documentary by Alexandru Solomon (Kapitalism — Our Improved Formula), among others.
She has also produced the Eurimages-supported film Best Intentions by Adrian Sitaru, which won two awards at the Locarno Film Festival in 2011 and two Romanian Gopos Awards, and Jude’s Everybody in our Family, which won six Gopos Awards and was also supported by Eurimages.
She is currently developing the docu-science-fiction film Tarzan’s Testicles by Alexandru Solomon, as well as Jude’s third feature, Aferim!
Solomon has worked in the film business for the last 20 years, and her films have picked up awards at festivals including Locarno, Sundance and Berlin, where Calin Peter Netzer‘s Child’s Pose (Pozitia Copilului) picked up the Golden Bear in 2013.
Solomon is also the head of distribution at Parada Film and executive director of the NexT IFF in Bucharest.
