Amazon Studios is broadening its development slate to include short films.
The company, an original film and series production arm of Amazon.com, is launching an initiative that evaluates so-called concept videos for possible development. Beginning Thursday, filmmakers worldwide can submit shorts to the Amazon Studios site, which will be evaluated for a development option.
The shorts should be two to 15 minutes in length and can be submitted either publicly or privately. As with the company’s script submission process, there is a 45-day option and evaluation period. Creators of projects added to the development slate will receive a $10,000 payment.
Launched in 2010, Amazon Studios continues to expand its operations. The company recently greenlighted its first-ever original series — comedies Alpha House and Betas and kids series Annebots, Creative Galaxy and Tumbleaf. These series will premiere exclusively on Prime Instant Video later this year and in 2014. Earlier this month, the division also launched Amazon Storyteller, a free online tool that turns scripts into storyboards, complete with characters and dialogue that can then be shared with others for feedback.
