The El Rey Network’s From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series has enlisted Wilmer Valderrama to its ranks.
The 10-episode series, based on the feature of the same name, revolves around bank robber Seth Gecko (D.J. Cotrona) and his violent, unpredictable brother Richard “Richie” Gecko (Zane Holtz), who are wanted by the FBI and Texas Rangers Earl McGraw (Don Johnson) and Freddie Gonzalez (Jesse Garcia) after a bank heist leaves several people dead.
STORY: Robert Rodriguez’s ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’ Series Adds Robert Patrick
Awake and That ’70s Show alum Valderrama will play the series regular role of Carlos Madrigal, the master villain and crime lord of the series who is a former Spanish Conquistador. He joins a cast that also includes Madison Davenport, Brandon Soo Hoo and Eiza Gonzalez.
From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series hails from FactoryMade Ventures. Robert Rodriguez will exec produce alongside Carlos Coto, who serves as showrunner. FactoryMade and El Rey Network co-founders John Fogelman and Cristina Patwa are also on board as EPs. Diego Gutierrez will pen the series and co-exec produce. Rodriguez will direct the first two installments. Miramax, the producing studio and distributor of the original film, will distribute the series internationally in all territories with the exception of Canada, China, India and the U.K.
Valderrama, repped by UTA, Silver Lining and Gendler & Kelly, most recently guest-starred on Fox’s Raising Hope and ABC’s Suburgatory. From Dusk Till Dawn, the El Rey Network’s first scripted original series, will premiere in the first quarter.
The El Rey Network, which launches in December, is a new 24-hour English-language network targeting a Latino audience. Founded by Rodriguez, the network has a national distribution agreement with Comcast.
