COLOGNE, Germany – If doubters required any further evidence that Germany’s pay-TV market is on the up, they got it with this week’s announcement that NBCUniversal International Television will launch its flagship pay-TV brand, Universal Channel, on German pay networks Sky Deutschland and Deutsche Telecom.
Belinda Menendez, President of international TV distribution and Universal Networks International said the German version of the channel will launch September 5 under the tagline “100% Characters.”
“The German launch of Universal Channel – our flagship channel brand – is an exciting milestone for Universal Networks International as we focus on the strategic growth of our channels’ portfolio in key markets around the world,” said Menendez in a statement. “This launch and our overall investment in Universal Channel, underscores the brand’s key role as a portfolio driver in our channels’ business and our long-term commitment to its success.”
Three channels from NBCUniversal’s stable – Syfy, 13th Street and E! Entertainment Television – already air in Germany.
Universal Channel is currently on air in 103 countries and 16 languages.
