TORONTO – D Films has picked up Canadian rights to the Jesse Eisenberg and Mia Wasikowska-starrer, The Double, ahead of its world premiere next month at the Toronto International Film Festival.
The dark comedy from writer/director Richard Ayoade (Submarine) and producer Alcove Entertainment was inspired by a Fyodor Dostoyevsky novella of the same name. Protagonist Pictures is the sales agent.
The picture also might have inspired a real-life romance as Eisenberg and Wasikowska reportedly started dating after working together on the film.

Toronto-based D Films plans a winter 2014 theatrical release in Canada.
Ayoade co-wrote The Double with Avi Korine.
The movie portrays an insignificant man nearly driven to an emotional breakdown by the appearance of his doppelganger.
Eisenberg plays the timid man scratching out an isolated existence in an indifferent world and ignored by the woman of his dreams (Wasikowska).
