Spearheaded by Jim Scheidel of Cuningham Group Architecture, the fifth annual Themed Entertainment Sustainability Summit – commonly referred to as TESS – will be held in Beijing, China.
STORY: China’s Wanda Plans Theme Park to Compete with Shanghai Disneyland
TESS is a conference held each year where global leaders in the leisure and entertainment industry gather to plan ways of implementing sustainable design for theme park development. Major corporations that have attended past summits include Walt Disney Imagineering, Universal Studios, Paramount Parks and Warner Bros among other names. Conducted in Los Angeles for the past four years, new international partnerships with participants in both China and Korea have enabled the conference to be held overseas for the first time.
This year’s TESS Asia will focus on planning and building new leisure entertainment spots across Asia, particularly in China, for future generations using sustainable design practices. Scheidel will be the summit’s keynote speaker, and eight guest presentations from U.S. and Chinese participants are also planned for the one-day gathering. From its launch in 2008, TESS has seen growth in attendance and expansion; the prospected number of attendees for this year’s international summit is set to be 120-150 – double the amount from past years.
TESS Asia will be held at Tshinghua University in Beijing, China on September 26, 2013.
