Tribeca Film has acquired U.S. rights to Neil LaBute‘s relationship drama Some Velvet Morning, starring Stanley Tucci and Alice Eve.
Written and directed by LaBute, Some Velvet Morning centers on Fred (Tucci), who arrives on the doorstep of his beautiful young mistress, Velvet (Eve), after four years apart, claiming to have left his wife. But when she rejects his attempts at rekindling their romance, his persistence evolves into obsession — and a dark history between the ex-lovers comes into focus.
The film — which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year — will be released Dec. 10 via cable and satellite VOD platforms, as well as on iTunes, Amazon, Vudu, Playstation and Google Play. It will then be released theatrically Dec. 13.
Tim Harms, Daryl Freimark, Michael Corrente, Trent Othick and David Zander are producers on the film.
“LaBute has a brilliant and unorthodox approach to filmmaking that captivates audiences, incites reactions and sparks dialogue,” said Geoff Gilmore, chief creative officer of Tribeca Enterprises. “Some Velvet Morning is a thought-provoking and emotional ride that culminates in a gray, open-ended space, but its complexities do not overwhelm Stanley Tucci and Alice Eve’s electrifying performances, or LaBute’s acute sense of storytelling.”
Added LeBute: “I feel so lucky to have Some Velvet Morning in the hands of Tribeca Film. Geoff Gilmore and his team have been great believers in my work, and it’s a real blessing to have this film given the care it deserves in the marketplace by such a fine company as Tribeca. I hope this is the beginning of a long association.”
The deal was negotiated by Nick Savva, Tribeca Film’s director of acquisitions, and Josh Braun and David Koh of Submarine Entertainment on behalf of the filmmakers. International Film Trust will handle international rights.
