DreamWorks’ long-gestating The Trial of the Chicago 7 has hit another speed bump.
THR has confirmed that Paul Greengrass has exited the project that chronicles the events leading up a group of activists, including Abbie Hoffman, being charged in relation to protests that took place during the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
Everyone from Steven Spielberg to Sacha Baron Cohen to Ben Stiller has flirted with the project that finally seemed to find traction once Greengrass began developing it. Scott Rudin recently came on board as a producer, joining Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald.
Aaron Sorkin wrote the screenplay.
Greengrass, whose next project is the Tom Hanks starrer Captain Phillips, left Chicago 7 over budgetary reasons. DreamWorks wants to keep the budget in the $25 million to $30 million range. Greengrass wanted it higher.
