The Israeli Film Critics Association on Sunday voted Gravity the best foreign film of 2013.
Founded in May of this year, the Israeli Film Critics Association consists of 22 journalists and film critics working in print, broadcast and electronic media. The group’s voting system is modeled after the New York Film Critics Circle.

The Alfonso Cuaron-directed space epic has also won plaudits from critic groups stateside, including the New York Film Critics Online, which awarded Gravity for its direction and cinematography. The L.A. Film Critics named Gravity this year’s best picture, producing a tie, as Spike Jonze‘s Her was also presented with the honor.
The other winners in Israel were mostly local films released theatrically there this year. The thriller Big Bad Wolves, written and directed by Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado, was named by the group as best film of the year. Big Bad Wolves will be released in the U.S. by Magnet in January.
