SACRAMENTO–

A person of interest in the murder of a Sacramento father and Air Force veteran is now behind bars.

Elijio Garza was shot to death in front of his family August 17 on Nareb Street in North Sacramento.

Garza’s son says his aunt’s boyfriend was getting violent with her and when his dad stepped in to help – that boyfriend fired the fatal shot.

Police won’t release a name or picture of their person of interest, but say he’s been arrested on unrelated domestic violence charges.

They also say they need more help from Garza’s family to file formal charges in his killing.

“There were a lot of people on the scene that night … a lot of people who knew each other and a lot of family members. And we’re urging those individuals to help us solve this, to cooperate with law enforcement,” said Officer Doug Morse, spokesman for the Sacramento Police Department.
