DAVIS (AP) —

Realizing more and more students are buying their textbooks at Amazon.com, officials at the University of California, Davis, have decided to join forces with the retail giant, rather than fight it.

The Sacramento Bee reported Sunday that UC Davis has signed an agreement with Amazon to start a co-branded website where students can purchase textbooks and other essentials. Under the deal, Amazon would pay the university up to 2.25 percent of gross sales, according to Jason Lorgan, director of UC Davis stores.

The deal also allows Amazon to set up shop on campus rent-free, installing lockers where students can retrieve packages and a retail counter for customer service.

Lorgan says the university received $250,000 during a 2013-14 trial of the program.

The agreement, inked in October, lasts for five years.
