MOSCOW — Ukraine’s film-funding body has signed a deal with the Ukrainian National Film Archive in Kiev to secure the services of its cinema experts to evaluate proposed movie projects.
The deal, worth $55,000, is designed to boost the quality of films put forward for state backing.
STORY: Ukrainian Film Industry Boosted by Increase in State Funding
Ukraine has been ratcheting up state backing of movies during the past three years, with more than $30 million made available in 2013.
About 10 state-backed features are expected to be completed this year, and 10 more are in production.
Kateryna Kopylova, head of the Ukrainian State Film Agency, said state funding will expand as projects get better.
“When there is a large number of high-quality, interesting movies, we will be able to raise the amount of state financing for the industry,” she told The Hollywood Reporter.
