LAS VEGAS – In a confirmation of 4K‘s growing prominence, Sharp introduced two televisions capable of playing Ultra HD content at CES International Monday.
The top-of-the-line Aquos 4K Ultra HD TV will be available this summer in 60- and 70-inch screen sizes and will play native 4K content.
A lower-priced alternative, the Aquos Q+, ships in February and offers 4K support via upscaling technology.
“The 4K world is upon us,” said Jim Sanduski, Sharp’s senior vp strategic marketing, at a press conference unveiling the TVs.
Sharp teamed with Red, a major supplier of cameras for digital cinematography, on a film competition shot in 4K to demonstrate the sets’ capabilities — clips from the finalists will be part of Sharp’s 4K demonstrations this week at CES.
